30 miles north of Buenos Aires up the Rio de la Plate (silver ) River, you'll find the delta town of Tigre where the Tigre River flows into La Plate. We explored the maze of channels and rivers near the town on an afternoon's river cruise, walk along the riverfront and dinner. The Captain provided some entertainment upon first entering the boat by carefully adjusting his chair, taking a seat, and then putting on his sunglasses. He checked the mirror to see whether the sunglasses were ok. Then reached up and adjusted the glasses. Then, once again, he checked himself out with a good long look in the mirror. Apparently satisfied, he proceeded to start the boat.

Life along these delta waterways cannot be easy. Most of the delta consists of islands with no bridges. Outside the town of Tigre, there is no public water system. River merchants plie large bottles of potable water and other basic supplies and services (even a regular weekly visit by a doctor) by boat.
Derelict boats and abandoned homes offer frequent confirmation of hardship, yet there is beauty everywhere.

Across the river is an old home, we saw many others on our boat ride, where a parade of skidoos, tourista, and working boats sail by during our early dinner today.
